For years I used this story as the sample text for an introductory wordprocessing exercise. The Bodice ript from side to side.Chapter 1In which we meet our hero and hear a tale of an unfortunate highwayman and his afflictions. "Coo!" said Fred. Chapter 2Wherein we discover three fair damsels in a state of déshabille and wonder whatever happened to the tale about the highwayman that we were supposed to hear in the first chapter. "Lawks!" said Mercy. Henrietta and Angeline said something similar, but it need not concern us here. Chapter 3A tale of a shirt, and lets forget that highwayman. "Might I assist you in covering your nakedness?" asked Fred, both eyes nearly closed. "Yes," said Angeline. "Take off your shirt that I may cover myself." "And your breeches," quoth Henrietta. Chapter 4In which nobody is covered by anything more seemly than blushes, and your humble author is the most modest of the company. "Oh!, OH!, OOOH!" cried Mercy. "Odds Bodkins!" squealed Angeline. Fred moaned and Henrietta merely smiled. Moral.Waste not, want not. FINIS."Am I too late?" asked the highwayman. |
